Here’s my first instalment of ‘Getting to Know You’. In this series I interview some of my favourite bloggers and delve a bit deeper into their blogging life. This week I’m pleased to introduce Yvonne from Double The Monkey Business, a parenting and lifestyle blog. Over to you Yvonne…..
What made you make the jump into the blogging world?
I started blogging a few years ago when I moved to Germany. I wanted to keep a diary of our time abroad. I originally used Blogger but I wasn’t 100% happy with it. So in January I had a makeover, new name, new theme and hosted on WordPress instead. The new blog is focused more on parenting & pregnancy health.
What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
I have twin boys, who are little monkeys. So, Double the Monkey Business seemed to fit nicely!
Is blogging your main career or just a hobby?
It is very much a hobby for me, although I am finding it is growing to be something a little more. I also work part-time at a newspaper.
What topics do you blog about?
My blog started off focused on pregnancy health. I suffered from HELLP syndrome and preeclampsia when I had my boys so I wanted to raise awareness. When I reached the end of that story, my focus shifted to parenting. I co-host an Instagram hashtag #capturingtheday which I blog about and co-host a linkup ‘Social Media Blast’.
If you didn’t have your blog what would be your dream job?
I love to work in communication & media, something where I am interacting with people and getting to write is ideal.
If you aren’t blogging what could we find you doing?
If it is during the day, I can usually be found rounding up the kids and getting outside to explore. When I have a rare evening off, I love to pour a glass of red wine and watch a film – although I usually fall asleep and rarely make it to the end!
What’s been your biggest blog success story?
Blogging about HELLP syndrome and raising awareness is by far the most successful blog posts to date. It led to campaigning for the Preeclampsia Foundation and writing for the Huffington Post.
What would be your advice to anyone looking to start their own blog?
Speak to other bloggers, I have found for the most part they have all been so friendly and helpful. Oh and read other blogs, not only is it good karma but they may just have some useful tips for you!
And lastly – can you tell us something people may not know about you?
I once met Kermit the Frog and Gonzo from The Muppets – the kids are very jealous about that 🙂
