In this series I interview some of my favourite bloggers and delve a bit deeper into their blogging life. This week I’m pleased to introduce Katy from Katykicker, a parent blogger and a bit of a money making genius who helps you to save and make money. Over to you Katy……
What made you make the jump into the blogging world?
I wanted to be able to help people online. People were often emailing me on forums I was on asking for advice on making money online. My blog initially started out solely to help people learn more about making and saving money online and has now evolved.
What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
It is an old childhood nickname that has stuck with me and came back into force a few years ago and I decided that it would be perfect. Also, I use it as my username a lot on websites too.
Is blogging your main career or just a hobby?
It is my main career now. I’m really grateful and proud of my opportunities that I have taken part in within the last year in particular.
What topics do you blog about?
I blog about making and saving money, parenting, lifestyle and a little bit of everything really. My website started out being finance based and has since evolved into a little bit of everything in my life.
If you didn’t have your blog what would be your dream job?
Once upon a time I would have loved to have been a lawyer. Nowadays I probably wouldn’t be able to handle the stress, the hours or the work/life balance.
If you aren’t blogging what could we find you doing?
Down my allotment, spending time with my family, procrastinating on the internet and cooking.
What’s been your biggest blog success story?
I wanted to work with Water Babies, to allow my daughter to receive swimming lessons, and this was my first ever pitch – and it paid off. We’ve been working together for a little while now and are nearing the end of chapter 1. My daughter is thriving thanks to the lessons and I’ve found a ‘baby class’ that I genuinely love taking part in.
What would be your advice to anyone looking to start their own blog?
Blog about what you know. Don’t try to be someone that you aren’t. I find that honesty is the best policy with my blog, particularly as I am often talking about money. I don’t want to mislead people, or talk about something to spend money on if I am not passionate about it. If you want to get blogging in the hopes of turning it into a business there is nothing wrong with that but think about your readers too. Try to post relevant posts to them and ensure that you are putting yourself into your posts. I find that personal posts are my favourite and I love blogs from individuals, rather than brands, as these are usually much more believable.
Lastly, can you tell us something that people may not know about you?
I used to have a good job – in the oil industry! I changed my life radically before I was 20 and it worked out fantastically well. I went on to meet my lovely husband and have our beautiful daughter Daisy. Sometimes in life you need to make a drastic change to find the path that is truly right for you.
