In this series I interview some of my favourite bloggers and delve a bit deeper into their blogging life. This week I’m pleased to introduce Jo from Kiddieholidays, a marathon running Mum from Yorkshire. Over to you Jo……
What made you make the jump into the blogging world?
Like a lot of bloggers, I started when I was on maternity leave after the birth of my 2nd child. I had a wonderful maternity leave, but I missed using my brain and learning new skills so I looked into blogging.
Kiddieholidays is about holidays and days out for babies and toddlers. I hit upon the idea of setting up a blog about travels with little ones after spending ages looking for somewhere to stay in Wales which was baby friendly, but which also didn’t cost the earth. Then I had a ‘lightbulb moment’ and decided to share my experiences with other parents. The rest was history!
What was the inspiration behind your blog name?
I wanted something which reflected the fact that my blog was about holidays with preschool children specifically. I had looked at having something with ‘toddler’ or ‘tot’ in the title, but decided that there were a lot of other blogs with similar names which could lead to confusion.
My blog name STILL doesn’t reflect that it is baby and toddler specific but I hope that it is memorable, and easy to remember.
Is blogging your main career or just a hobby?
Kiddieholidays is my hobby. I work 3 days a week in marketing and spend the other 2 days and weekend spending time with my husband and 2 young sons. My sons don’t really know anything about my blog, and that’s the way I want to keep it. I want to spend all my time focusing on them whilst they are still young, and want to spend time with me!
When they get older, I might be able to dedicate more time to it.
What topics do you blog about?
Kiddieholidays is about holidays and days out with babies and toddlers. I like to provide advice and inspiration about places to go with preschool children.
If you didn’t have your blog what would be your dream job?
Ooooh tricky one! I do love my job in marketing, but I think it would be cool to be a pilot – but I don’t know if I’d be clever enough to do that!
If you aren’t blogging what could we find you doing?
I love going out with my family on days out around my beloved Yorkshire. I also like being outside – running, walking and doing pilates.
What’s been your biggest blog success story?
I’ve worked with some fantastic brands, and tourist boards to promote their destination to the baby and toddler friendly market. I’m proud of the work I’ve done with Visit Pembrokeshire writing a Mini Guide to Pembrokeshire With Babies And Toddlers.
What would be your advice to anyone looking to start their own blog?
Just do it. Set up a blog and start writing. Don’t procrastinate, don’t compare yourself to other people- just start blogging and find your own feet.
Don’t underestimate the power of good photos either. You don’t need a fancy camera but edit all your shots before you put them on your site.
Lastly, can you tell us something that people may not know about you?
In a moment of madness I signed up for the Yorkshire Marathon last year and ran it in 4 hours 27 mins which I was very pleased with.
Oh, and I’m from Yorkshire!
