In this series I interview some of my favourite bloggers and delve a bit deeper into their blogging life. This week I’m pleased to introduce Chloe from Life Unexpected, an award winning lifestyle blogger and Mum to one of the most adorable little girls I’ve ever seen. Over to you Chloe……

What made you make the jump into the blogging world?

Whilst I was on maternity leave I suffered quite badly with post natal depression. I really felt lost and alone. Even though I loved my little girl more than anything, my life had changed very drastically.

I’ve always loved writing and being creative, ever since I was a child. My family told me to use writing to help myself get through the cloudy patch, because it was a little something for me. As soon as I put fingers to keyboard, I was away and there was no looking back. Blogging has given me so much and I can’t thank it enough.

What was the inspiration behind your blog name?

My daughter was an unexpected surprise. We were so happy to find out that we were expecting her, but she was not in the plans at all. She made me see that life can really be unexpected. When I started the blog, it was predominantly about her and our new life together, so Life Unexpected just seemed really natural.

Is blogging your main career or just a hobby?

Blogging used to be my favourite hobby and I dreamt of turning it into my career. Over the past 18 months, it has slowly become my part time job and I am so lucky to make a regular small income from it. In the future I’m hoping to turn it into my full time job. I have some exciting plans in place for 2017, so watch this space!

What topics do you blog about?

I blog mostly about parenting and travel. But this year I’ve started to focus a lot more on helping other mums who are starting their own business and other bloggers too. You’ll find lots of tips for mumpreneurs, freelancers and bloggers on Life Unexpected, alongside family lifestyle.

If you didn’t have your blog what would be your dream job?

Writing. Be it stories, magazine articles, or anything. I’ve always wanted to write. I dream about getting a children’s book published one day.

If you aren’t blogging what could we find you doing?

Travelling or going on outdoor adventures. I hate being inside. Even in the middle of winter you will find me outdoors doing some kind of activity with my daughter.

What’s been your biggest blog success story?

Winning an award. Last Christmas I was nominated for a parent blogger award. We went up for the ceremony in January where they announced the winners. I didn’t think I would win and when they announced my name, I literally couldn’t believe it. It was an audience only vote and I was up against some huge bloggers. I still have to pinch myself now.

What would be your advice to anyone looking to start their own blog?

Think about what you want from blogging early on. If it’s just a hobby, then write and enjoy it! You’ll love it! If you’re planning on making it your career, then read lots and lots of blog tips. I see so many bloggers everyday, wishing they’d done things the right way from the beginning, especially in regards to things like SEO. I am one of these bloggers! I never used to use keywords or name my pictures in the right way. I’m still spending half an hour a day, going back through old posts and correcting this.

Lastly, can you tell us something that people may not know about you?

I am really bad at making tea! My close friends know this and as soon as they come over, they put the kettle on for themselves. I just can never get it right! It’s always way too milky.
