For as long as I can remember I’ve loved bluebells. I used to visit the local bluebell woods when I was little and was mesmerised by all the violet that lay like a blanket across the ground.

Like most parents we’re keen to pass on our childhood memories to Max, so when the sun was shining this morning we grabbed the camera, hopped into the car and headed to our nearest bluebell woods about 30 minutes drive away for a little impromptu photo shoot. However Lady Luck wasn’t quite on our side.

The sea of violet that I remember as a child wasn’t there. Instead there were just a few sparse patches dotted about the woods – and we had to hunt hard to find them. April is an ideal time for bluebells, they should be at their best this time of year, so I was a tad disappointed to say the least. But we hadn’t driven all that way for nothing so we found the best spot we could and got ready to snap away.

Just two minutes later the beaming sunshine that had been shining so brightly through the trees disappeared under a thick grey cloud. Today was just not our day.

I couldn’t let Mother Nature ruin our plans though and just 20 minutes later I managed to get a pretty good selection of photos. We’ll be making this a yearly family tradition so I’m hoping we get our timing a bit better next year. But for now, here’s a few from today……..
