Originating in America, cake smash photoshoots have been taking the UK by storm as parents look for a fun and memorable way to mark their child’s first birthday. The craze involves letting your one year old loose with a giant cake while being pictured by a photographer, creating some cheeky, adorable and messy shots that you can treasure forever.
About six months ago we started thinking ahead to how we should celebrate Max’s 1st birthday. As most of you will know by now, he’s our miracle baby, so when it came to picking the theme for his party there was one obvious choice – it had to be a rainbow birthday party!
I can’t quite believe you’re one! It seems like only yesterday we were rushing to hospital after my waters broke. 32 hours of gruelling labour later and you were here. 10 tiny fingers, 10 tiny toes, chubby cheeks and a button nose – you were perfect – and you were all ours.
Hey mate, so today is the day that you turn 11 months old. The next update will be the biggest yet – your 1st birthday. But before I start crying bucket loads at just the mere thought of you turning one, I’ll push that to the back of my mind and fill you in on everything that has happened this month
Another month and another update. I can’t quite believe it but we’re no longer in single figures and my darling Maxy Moo you are now 10 months old! We’re hurtling towards your 1st birthday at a rate of knots and before we know it we’ll have a one year old on our hands! Time is going too fast.
I can’t believe it but another month has passed and Max is now 9 months old. I actually didn’t get around to posting his 8 month update for a number of reasons. Firstly, not much actually happened in terms of development, it was a bit of a slow month. Related to this I actually had a bad month in terms of my emotions. I was left feeling like Max was behind in reaching certain milestones, and in turn this made me feel like I was failing him as a Mum.
Well here we are, it’s 2017 and on New Years Day Max turned 7 months old. I’m a few days late with this months update due to the whirlwind of Christmas and New Year. But better late than never, here is everything Max has been up to in the past month
So today we’ve reached a mini milestone. Our little baby Max is 6 months old. It feels like only yesterday that we were bringing him home from hospital, and now here he is, half a year old. People say time goes by so quickly when you become a parent and they’re right, Max is growing up so fast and the memories of him being a newborn are starting to fade.
So another month has passed and my not so little boy is 5 months old today. Everyday he’s learning new skills and it’s amazing to watch him develop. We couldn’t be more proud of what a gorgeous little boy he’s becoming.
When I was 6 months pregnant we decided we wanted to get the nursery decorated before the baby arrived. I didn’t like the idea of bringing the baby home and not having a room ready for them. However we didn’t find out the gender of the baby so we had to go for something fairly neutral.
