Happy New Year!

I’m not one for fancy resolutions each year because lets be honest, I almost certainly don’t stick to them. This year I’ve decided to set myself some little goals, more personal ones, and I’m hoping the fact that they are personal to me will help keep me more motivated. So here they are, my 2018 goals………….

Get outside more

I’ve never been a great outdoors person, preferring to snuggle up indoors by a cosy fire than brave the elements. However, since becoming a mum I know how unrealistic that is. Max is 19 months now and he certainly doesn’t want to be stuck indoors, he wants to get out and explore.

My goal is to spend at least one day every weekend, out and about having some much needed quality family time. We live in a beautiful part of the world and have an abundance of parks and beaches on our doorstep, so it’s time to grab our coats and go have some fun.

Look after myself

My guilty pleasure has always been food. I love eating out and would always reach for a take-away menu over a recipe book. Years of eating unhealthy has finally taken it’s toll on my body and I’m starting to feel a bit ‘sluggish’. I need to take better care of myself and be a better role model for Max, I don’t want him picking up bad eating habits.

I’m not embarking on any crazy fad diets, just being a bit more sensible, like swapping a packet of crisps for a banana and limiting myself to one or two cheat meals a month. So far it’s going well and I’ve lost 5lbs in my first week – definitely motivation to stick with it.

Follow my dreams

A few months ago I set up my own photography business, Bella Vita Photography. Photography has been a passion of mine for years, and this only intensified when max came along. I took photos of him daily, using him as my model, learning new poses, understanding lighting and figuring out my style.

Friends and family kept telling me I should offer out my services, an idea which I thought was ridiculous at first. However I bit the bullet last year and haven’t looked back. I’ve fallen in love with photography more than I thought was possible, with newborn photography being the natural path I find myself going down. I’m hoping by the end of the year my little business has grown to the point I can officially say it’s my career!

Believe in myself

Like a lot of people, I’m my own harshest critic. Never believing that I’m quite good enough, always doubting myself and my abilities and comparing myself to others. But this needs to change. I need to see in myself what others see, and that’s a strong, smart and more than capable woman who can achieve anything that she wants to achieve.

The year got off to an amazing start when an email landed in my inbox a few days ago telling me I’m a finalist in the UK Blog Awards 2018 Baby & Parenting Category. My blog, and all that it stands for, means a lot to me, so to have the belief and support of others must mean I’m doing something right! I’m up against some other hugely talented bloggers so we will have to wait until the awards ceremony in April to see if I take home the prize – I’ll be sure to keep you updated!
